Mavrik is a hockey enthusiast! He and his family spend most of their free time watching the Prince George Cougars (WHL) hockey team, swimming, and participating in other community activities. Mavrik has two beloved sisters, Stella and Ayla, in Prince George. Their large family often gathers for weekend events, which frequently involve lots of hockey. Mavrik, always eager to chat, is passionate about playing hockey.
He and his family have been on a quest to visit different NHL arenas and attend NHL games. So far, they’ve cheered on the Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, and have attended several Vancouver Canucks games. Mavrik delights in rooting for his favorite teams and indulging in mini donuts.
Shortly after his second birthday, Mavrik developed a cold with a recurring fever. Despite a hospital visit, the doctors couldn’t determine the cause. A week later, his family discovered a tumor in his abdomen and rushed him back to the hospital. A CT scan revealed a likely cancerous tumor. The following morning, they were flown to BC Children’s Hospital. Since October 2024, Mavrik has been undergoing treatment, including five rounds of chemotherapy and several surgeries. He will receive two rounds of high-dose chemotherapy and stem cell transplants, followed by radiation and six months of immunotherapy before they can return home.
His family said, “We are so grateful for the medical care at BC Children’s and all the love and support from our Prince George community.”
