Maddie is Celebrating

On February 18th, I will eat a scoop to celebrate #remission with Maddie because #babiesgetcancertoo. #neuroblastoma@eaticecreamday

Maddie was a very happy little girl and not a lot seemed to phase her. She was very smiley and loved playing and sleeping. Her family had settled into life as a family of four. Big sister Charli was 3 when Maddie was born. They loved being outdoors and had a pool in their family home.

Maddie was diagnosed with stage four Neuroblastoma at 8 months old. She had 8 rounds of chemotherapy and surgery to remove the tumor from her left adrenal gland. We spent a lot of time in hospital and being away from sister Charli who turned 4 during treatment was hard.

Once discharged from hospital we were not allowed back to our house due to major home renovations that were started right before Maddie’s diagnosis. So her whole family stayed with her grandparents until renovations were finished.

The building company was amazing and finished early for us and then an amazing lady organised many trades and helpers to get the inside and outside finished so we could move home. It was amazing. Maddie handled all her treatment and procedures like a true champion.

She is now 6 years old (7 in May) and in year 2 at school. Currently 5 years cancer free and she is so happy she kicked cancers butt and loves supporting Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day every year with her sister Charli.
